Welcome to Central Oregon, the high desert, and the home of the fabled Deschutes River meandering its way from high in the Deschutes National Forest, over 100 miles, to the Columbia River. It is here where we have spent good portions of our lives getting to know the finned creatures that inhabit these waters. We invite you to join us on the Deschutes River guided fly fishing trip of a lifetime and create memories of scenic beauty in a rugged, yet catered adventure, all while bending your fly rod.
We specialize in both Native Deschutes River "Redside" Rainbow Trout or the ocean-going (anadromous) Wild Deschutes River Steelhead.
Deschutes River Outfitters is a one-of-a-kind outfitter that offers a 100% satisfaction guarantee for all of our trips...we have done this long enough that we know you won't be disappointed.

River level is currently 4,000cfs (Madras) and steady.
Where has the summer gone?! Wow... we finally recieved some hot weather, more typical summer weather and the caddis went nuts. The wind stayed mellow and the fish came out to play. It was great! Working fish all over. A dry fly nuts dream come true, sippers, snouts, and fins poking up all over. Of course we have recieved some cooler weather and thunderstorms and they are predicting the cooler temps till the weekend. If the temps bump up again, so should the fishing.
Still, hotter mornings have produced the most dry fly opportunities. The wind has been coming up early and makes chasing rising fish a little more spotty. The bugs are getting blown off and the numbers, intensity, and concentrations have been diminishing. The nymphing has been fair to good and seeing more production than the dries. Also, there are not as many fish in eddies as there normally are for this time of year. Keep an eye on those eddies, though, they will move into them. If we could get a couple hot days—more like a typical July/August weather—it will definitely help the cause.
Steelhead numbers on the Columbia look promising. The counts have taken a little downturn in the past couple of days, (keep your fingers crossed). If it gets hot again check reports before you go; that White River can take out the Lower River’s visibility if it dumps. Fish are definitely being caught on The Lower Deschutes. That fishery has officially started and the crowds are showing up as well. The steelhead will be moving up the River with time. And when you go, remember it’s steelheading. They don’t come easy and you need to put in your time. Cherish every one of them.
