May 27, 2017- If you haven't been on the Deschutes in the last week or so, NOW is the time. Although the stoneflies showed up on time in early May, it took a while for the weather to warm up and get them flying. Last week brought some hot temps to the canyon and put the big bugs into flight mode, which finally stirred up some serious action with the fish. We are finally retiring the bobber rods for a while and even snipping the little dropper flies off of the big dry flies. Down and dirty, bow-and-arrow jungle fishing is the name of the game and we couldn't be more excited. This is when the biggest resident trout of our season show up to play. Give us a call and get down here!

Nate Turner
The BIG BUGS are everywhere! From Warm Springs to Mack's Canyon, fly anglers on the Lower Deschutes are experiencing the thrill of watching fat-bellied redsides sipping, gulping and slashing at adult stoneflies as they flutter to the surface trying to lay eggs. It is truly the 'egg-laying'... Read more

I have always been drawn to sports and activities that tie in you into the landscape and the ebb and flow of nature and the seasons. It grounds me for starters and I feel more in tune. An active participant of nature instead of passive bystander. All fluff aside, really it gives me... Read more

Word on the Street... The last week or so heard a little river gossip that is worth passing on. I was told by a guide buddy that the tribe is step up patroling Dry Creek to Trout Creek and that they want the Tribal permits ON  YOUR person or they will cite you.  I know, normally I... Read more
Breaking up the Winter Time Blues
March 18, 2012

March....winter steelheading is still going on, and March can be one of the best for winter chrome. But March, winter feels like it is lagging on. The urging for spring and summer is there. At least for me, I like sun and long days and having options of what and where to go play, and not... Read more

The Deschutes Running a Little Dirtier
May 18, 2011

Even last fall it seemed like the "D" had different hue to it. Clear and visible, but almost reminded me off tanin stained New England water. This spring on our first trip putting in at Warm Springs it was dirty. Ok, it is spring run off time etc, but this is below the dam, it is... Read more

April 17, 2011
Mike Boyd
With the Deschutes season days away from ramping up and the heralded salmon fly and golden stone hatch looming in the near future the big question mark is to how year two water management and the future of our hatch timing look. Last year was early, but could have been the perfect storm. Water... Read more

As far as guiding goes, on most days we focus on what opportunities and memories we provide for clients. Their biggest trout ever. First trout. First steelhead, and maybe, cross your fingers, most steelhead ever in one day. A day away from the grind and a break from the cubicle. Like... Read more
