 There is one single reason I always bring a camera wherever I go; I don't get out enough. So taking lots of photos enables me to extend my trips. Maybe not in the flesh but certainly in the colorful world of day dreams. 
I'm a big fan of using inferior tools to achieve standard or even above par results. Simple and basic, thats how I fish and it's how I take photos. I've never owned an SLR camera, but the old point n shoot I carry has certainly earned its keep over the years. 
Photography is a very forgiving arena to play in. No matter what the scenario may be the outcomes all vary with how an individual combines the available components to create an image. And as they say with ugly babies and small fish, beauty is in the eye of the beholder.
