Deschutes One Day Trip
This is a great introduciton to what the Deschutes has to offer. An Oregon classic, the Deschutes and its trout, "redsides", hold a special place in everybodies heart that has fished this river. This is also the steelhead trip that has started a lot of people off with their first fly caught steelhead, then the addiction begins.
Trout season historically starts the last Saturday in April. We fish for trout all spring, summer and into the fall. Steelhead start showing up in fishable numbers about mid to end of September. We will fish for steelhead till it closes in the end of December. The events calendar explains the seasonal fishing progression ( styles, hatches, etc)
One day trips typically start at Warm Springs and take out at Trout Creek. The West bank is owned by the Warm Springs Tribe and requires a tribal permit to fish that area. We float this section in a drift boat. It is illegal to fish from a floating device on this river, so the boat is used to access spots, then it is wading to fish. To me wading and getting right in there with the fish is way more intimate of a fishing experience than just "chucking" towards the bank from the boat all day.
One day trips include a shore lunch, a stocked cooler of water and sodas, and snacks. Fishing License and appropriate permits ( tribal permit and boaters pass) are not included in the price.
Deschutes Multi-day Trips
This is the crown jewel and the ultimate Deschutes Experience! The section that we float is basically only accessible by boat. The canyon is breath taking and spending three -five days on the river, immersing yourself in the fish and natural beauty of your surrondings is flat out euphoric. That frame of mind is what we like to call "river time", and it is a nice place to be.
We fish and float our way down the river, camp is moved down river ahead of us by a "bagger" and set up before we arrive at the end of a day of fishing. The camping is comfortable, the food is great, scenery incredible, and oh yeah the fishing. This is not beanies and weenies sleeping in a pup tent. This is pull in to camp in the evening and Hor'd ouvers are waiting kinda camping. Truely a memorable experience, this trip turns into a "once a year" event for a lot of guests. Winter Steelhead
The very name conjurs up images of glowing "steelhead green" rivers, rainy coastal enviroments immersed in ferns and moss, and oh yeah hefty chrome fish hot and fresh from the ocean. Winter fish are truely a unique beast. The formula for winter steelhead include, constantly changing conditions, and "interesting" weather, but the rewards can be epic. On the average bigger than thier summer run brethern, the rivers we fish hold the potential for some once in a lifetime quality fish.
We offer fly fishing and spin fishing this time of year. The primary river we fish is the North Umpqua. I have worked with Roe Outfitters for a number of years on the North Umpqua and continue to work with them. All North Umpqua trips are in conjunction with Roe Outfitters.
